This is a MLS (multi-line selection, or sometimes called MLA, multi-line addressing) LCD built by EPSON. I am not going into details of MLS/MLA in this post, but in general they provides higher contrast ratio and lower driving voltage with same LC material, but at the cost of more complex driving chips. The final display quality still depends on the specific LC material used.
